Updates from PMIWDC’s Programs Operational Area: Welcome to PMIWDC 2018!

As we start 2018, we are excited to hold our monthly chapter events at a new location, on a new day, and even with a new format!

Our new location is the Doubletree Hotel Tysons Corner in McLean, VA. Moving to this new location targets where the majority of our membership live and work. This new space is larger and offers a wider variety of Networking event possibilities, as our networking events can now be moved outside when it is warmer. If you attended the January event, you would have met our own Washington Redskin Trent Murphy, as he mingled, autographed items, and took selfies with attendees. Attend our February event and you will meet Gerald O. Sablo, Jr., BS, MS, the 2017 winner of the prestigious “James R. Snyder International Student Paper of the Year Award” recently presented in Chicago, IL at the 2017 PMI Professional Awards Gala.

We also have larger Presentation Conference rooms, which seat more attendees more comfortably and accommodates both appetizer and semi-annual sit-down dinner presentation events. Our Book Club has their own room where they can comfortably discuss and meet on the most current project management titles. Our Market Place will have their own space outside the conference area foyer, in which attendees can view and purchase popular PMIWDC shirts and items, while also picking up any of the PMI standards books and the most current books on project, program, and portfolio management. We also now have room to acknowledge new members and recently certified PMPs and a place where attendees can exchange resumes if they are job hunting or have positions to offer. The Doubletree Hotel Tysons Corner also has plenty of FREE parking, just steps away from their main and side entrances. The Hotel also offers FREE shuttle buses that run regularly from the Metro to the Hotel and back again.

Our new day for our monthly chapter events is now the 3rd Tuesday of the month, (except for September and November - being the 2nd Tuesday of the Month - due to Holidays). Moving to this new day and schedule gives members extra opportunities to attend PMIWDC events.

Our new format is focused on offering attendees ready to use PM knowledge and skills through hard and soft skill presentations, as well as professional networking, centered around special themes and special guest appearances. We now offer a flexible schedule for the evening events, consisting of 10 monthly Networking and PM Talk events (serving healthy, hearty and themed foods… like assorted veggies, chicken kabobs, lean burger sliders, chicken wings, grilled veggies, variety of cheeses and breads, veggie dips, breaded mushrooms, and assorted fruits and nuts; along with hot and cold appetizers that are replenished on a regular basis). The cash bar now serves your favorite top shelf drinks, assorted wines, and many different beers at a modest price. Depending on the event, we sometimes will run a drink special and will also offer complimentary drink coupons for special occasions. (For example, at our Kickoff January event, if you wore any team apparel, you received a complimentary drink ticket).

Beyond the monthly chapter event, University PM Talks will be held at local universities and will include speakers pushing into PMI’s Talent Triangle of Technical, Leadership, Strategic and Business topics for speaker presentations. These University PM Talks will usually be held each quarter and will offer Networking and Pizza or healthy food choices from 5:30pm to 6:00pm, with the speaker presentations being held from 6:00pm to 7:00pm, and a panel discussion from 7:00pm to 7:30pm. PMIWDC members are also encouraged to attend and network at this event!

We continue to offer PM in the AM, which is our breakfast PM speaker event (for members who can’t attend our evening events); our PM Saturday event, which is our Saturday PM speaker event (for our members who can’t attend our weekday events), and our digital events, like our Webinar events, which is our virtual PM speaker event and our PM Tools event. We will continue to hold PM After Hours networking events this year, along with other professional networking events in between.

We offer our PMIWDC members a wide range of opportunities to learn and use PM knowledge and skills, along with professional networking, and many ways to obtain PDU’s for your professional development.
