Welcome to the PMI Washington DC Chapter (PMIWDC) where we are committed to offer opportunities and resources that meet the evolving needs of our members throughout their project management careers. Our Professional Development Programs provide a wide range of career development offerings that include training courses, educational seminars and mentorship opportunities. What makes the 2018 Program Year stand out? We are tailoring our programs to be more member-centric and closely align with the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Strategic Direction by embracing agility. To this end, our program lineup includes Agile training and certification courses, Educational Seminars providing workshops on topics important to our members, PMP Preparation Courses under the updated PMBoK 6th Edition that embrace agile practices plus our Mentor / Protégé Program (including Military mentorship) that provides continuous one-on-one professional development support from experts in the profession.

Educational Seminars

The PMI Washington DC Chapter continues to respond to member needs and continues to offer all-day educational seminars with an opportunity for members to earn 7 PDUs in a single event. In 2018, our seminar lineup is designed to engage members on exploring what it means to “embrace Agile” at the various levels of project / program management. We kicked the year off early in January with a hands-on workshop on scaling Agile for the Enterprise. And we plan on four more seminars featuring top presenters on Agile Government Contracting (May 17), followed by a strategic overview of agility as it pertains to Product Strategy and Leadership (June 21), Advanced Risk Management in Programs / Projects (August 14) and Agile and Change Management (November 12)

We look forward to seeing you here! You can also provide your suggestions for a topic of your interest to guide our future seminar topics (only two questions and takes less than 10 seconds to complete).

PMP Prep Courses

Our Winter PMP course in February kicked off the first of four planned PMP Prep courses in 2018 which are held quarterly and gain popularity as sessions are executed during two consecutive weekends. The Winter PMP Prep Course was the last to be taught under the 5th Edition PMBoK outline due to the newly released 6th Edition. The classes are intended to help participants prepare for the PMP exam, and are taught by certified Project Management Professionals, who have years of practical project management experience. Those wishing to attend the classes would already have a background in project management fundamentals. The class helps students prepare for the PMP exam as well as gain 26 contact hours toward their PMP application. PMIWDC anticipates a greater demand for our PMP Prep Courses in 2018 given the most recent Exam Change on March 26, 2018. Find and register for upcoming classes

Agile Training Bootcamp Courses

Members of PMIWDC, and the larger project management community in the Washington DC area have demonstrated high interest in mastering Agile concepts to integrate both knowledge sets into a powerful combination of business approaches and delivery. As a thought leader for PMI, the PMIWDC chapter is defining and expanding the market for Agile practices and training through its Agile Training Bootcamp Courses. These two full day courses will provide an excellent opportunity to understand proven Agile methodologies and practices, participate in activities with real-life cases and gain a better understanding of organizational application, while earning PDUs. You can now register for the next Agile training course.

Mentor / Protege Program

The chapter’s Mentoring Program is a benefit for chapter members, which provides the opportunity to foster a one-on-one relationship between a mentor and protégé focused on developing and enhancing project management competencies. The Program for 2018 launched in January with significant level of interest from applicants. Additionally, the 2018 Program is running a pilot program within the main Mentoring program providing targeted mentorship toward PMIWDC military veteran members. Contact the program team to learn more and participate on the program.
