Meet Kevin Roney – the 2017 PMIWDC Chapter Vice-Chair and Chief Operations Officer (COO). Kevin has volunteered for over 6 years starting with the Professional Development (PD) Committee, assisting in the chapter’s PMP prep classes. Kevin eagerly accepted the challenges of Assistant Vice President PD in 2011. He subsequently was elected by chapter members to Vice President PD in 2013. In 2015 Kevin was honored to elected by chapter members to the Governance Board as a Director-at-Large where he worked on special assignments supporting the chapter’s nomination committee and chapter’s military veteran programs.
Beyond his PMIWDC volunteer leadership responsibilities, Kevin is a Principal Systems Analyst with Texas Center for Applied Technology. Kevin has 30 years of engineering and management experience. He has successfully managed $400M in complex projects. Kevin has mentored several project managers and supervised the performance of 100 person-consulting organizations. Kevin started learning about project management at an early age from his father, a successful manufacturing engineer. His Dad often shared with him his projects, demonstrating why defining requirements, planning and scheduling, and sound leadership was necessary to deliver projects on time and within budget. Kevin would often visit the project sites with his Dad to see the project results. It was inevitable that Kevin would someday earn his PMP.
Kevin is also active in other volunteer opportunities. He has led fund raising for the Home at Last charity that constructed two homes designed specifically for disabled Military Veterans. Kevin has volunteered with Servants 4 Him in re-building homes, providing clean water, and teaching children about proper dental care in Latin America.
Kevin holds a Masters in Engineering Management from the University of Maryland, a Bachelor of Science Nuclear Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology, and a Certificate in Bible Studies from Cornerstone Chapel Bible Institute. Kevin is a former United States Army Officer serving in both active and reserve assignments. Kevin resides in Ashburn, VA with his wife Sharlene, also a PMP, and their dog Bear. Kevin enjoys competitive golf, biking along the WO&D path, do it yourself home projects, and spending time with his extended families in Georgia and Washington.
