Updates from PMIWDC's Educational Partnerships Operational Area

Educational Partnerships focuses on expanding project management best practices into colleges, universities, and K-12 institutions in DC, VA, and MD. The goal is to help support these institutions, develop a shared understanding of project management, and to grow interest in the profession. We do this by demonstrating the ability of project management to drive innovation and change in our everyday lives, our communities, and our profession.
Over the past year, PMIWDC has integrated its engagement with area colleges and universities in a way that presents a "single face" to each relationship, incorporating aspects of student engagement, student mentoring, guest lecturing, cross-promotion of PM conferences, sponsorship of chapter events, involvement in extra-curricular programs such as Enactus, and more.
Our new AVP of Higher Education, Annette Robertson, is developing a comprehensive strategy to ensure that the voices of local colleges and universities are heard and that we have the resources in place to best support their needs. The University PM Talks event co-created with chapter’s Program team is one of our most successful, highly attended, and highly rated events.
We also welcome our new AVP of K-12, Alan Hall, who is leading the effort in developing a model to further the promotion of project management knowledge in local high school curriculums, contests, and STEM programs. He leads the chapter’s engagement with the Project Management Institute Educational Foundation (PMIEF) who is Program Sponsor for DiscoverE “Future Cities” competition. Future Cities provides middle students from around the United States to compete on projects that blend science, technology, engineering, and math, as well as project management to imagine, design, and build a model future city
