Data Engineering is the new, emerging, and fastest growing field, with aspect of Data Science, focusing on practical applications of data collection, management and analysis. Every data-driven business needs to have a framework in place for the data life cycle from collection, curation, extraction, modeling, and interpretation.

This session is to introduce you to the new paradigms of applying Project Management Practices to Data Engineering, a new way of managing the organization’s data and how best to wrangle and utilize data using new cutting-edge best practices for data - people + skills, process, technology and quality management.

Data Engineering – The New Paradigm of Data Portfolio

Swarupa is responsible for managing the College Board Enterprise Data platform which houses data for students, educational organizations and assessments such as the SAT, PSAT and AP. Her team is responsible for integrating student information and test data into the College Board data ecosystem, and is trusted with exchanging data within the College Board, and between organizations where College Board sends test materials, scores, and data analytics and insights into student data, middle schools, high schools, colleges, test center locations, and states and districts.

Swarupa joined the College Board in 2006 and led the Technical Operations team which focused on the reliable delivery of numerous SAT, PSAT and AP initiatives including SAT registration to score release, PSAT/NMSQT Score Report, Services for Students with Disabilities, SAT School Day, Bulk Registration, AP online score release, the SAT Suite redesign, and recent modifications to the AP program. She has also guided teams from across the organization on initiatives that focused on enhancing and optimizing daily business processes, customer service and Information Technology capabilities.

Prior to joining the College Board, Swarupa was as a technical consultant at Tata Consultancy Services, working on initiatives from different countries; United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and the United States.

About the Reston Local Community

Each month, PMIWDC Reston Local Community volunteers strive to bring you interesting and informative speakers from a wide range of professions. They present these speakers to you at the Leidos building or other organization located at Reston Town center. This is an opportunity to network with other professionals of the PMI. The conference center at Leidos offers a maximum seating of approximately 30 guests. Pre-registration is required. Luncheons are held every third Wednesday of the month.
