ITIL – What Is It, and Why Should PMs Care?

Experienced PMs know that repeatable, documented processes are essential to improving IT service delivery and management. The ITIL framework provides an effective foundation for quality IT service management. Our panel of experts will provide an introduction to ITIL V3, along with real-life stories on how ITIL is being implemented at DOT and across the Federal government.

    Tim Clifford is currently Executive Vice President for Horizon Industries, Limited, an 8(a) certified IT services provider. Mr. Clifford has over 25 years of professional experience focused on the delivery of IT-based services, with a focus on the US Federal Government. Most recently, Mr. Clifford focused on the development of service management strategies to support the delivery of IT services to the Veterans Healthcare Administration. 

    In addition to establishing a general framework for the establishment of service level agreements (SLAs) between VA IT and healthcare organizations he addressed the IT needs of targeted VA health delivery programs, such as the National Teleradiology Program. Mr. Clifford’s career has spanned a broad spectrum of roles related to the delivery of IT and telecommunications services, including both operational and engineering roles.

    Dr. Mimi Struck has over 27 years of experience in IT with Digital Equipment Corporation, Compaq, and HP. She earned her Manager's Certificate in IT Service Management in 2004 and her ISO 20000 Consultant certification in the spring of 2006. Since establishing Multithreads in October 2005, Mimi has been developing and teaching both ITIL Foundations and IT Service Management classes, and consulting with IT organizations on ITIL implementations. Multithreads LLC is accredited by CSME and ISEB.

    Bruce Amato has over 30 years as an IT professional. He is Managing Partner of BAA, LLC. Mr. Amato has a contract using ITIL practices developing Service Level Agreements with the Veteran’s Healthcare Administration. In addition, he provides Information Technology financial analysis, software engineering and investment strategies in the Telecommunications, Healthcare, Aerospace and Airline industries. Mr. Amato recently left a two-year appointment at the Pentagon as the Chief Software Engineer in the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD). In this role, Mr. Amato helped formulate DoD-wide policy and guidance for acquisition of all software engineering issues within the Department.
