About the Speaker:

The Honorable Thomas M. Davis

Director of Federal Government Affairs, Deloitte LLP
US House of Representatives, 1995 – 2008
Chair, House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, 2003 - 2007

The Honorable Thomas M. Davis is the Director of Federal Government Affairs for Deloitte LLP and is a former US Congressman and the past chair of the House Committee on Government Reform.

Tom Davis joined Deloitte in November 2008 after a 14 year career in the United States House of Representatives, including six years as the chair and ranking Republican member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. In his current capacity as director of federal relations, he serves as a subject matter expert on political, policy and procurement matters for Deloitte practitioners and clients.

During his tenure in Congress, Mr. Davis compiled an impressive record of legislative accomplishments. Among these were the D.C. Control Board Act, which is credited with turning around the District’s troubled financial situation; the National Capital Transportation Amendments, which authorized $1.5 billion for the Washington Metro system; the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, which authorized the Food and Drug Administration to regulate tobacco products; and the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006, which marked the first comprehensive overhaul of the Postal Service since 1971.

Mr. Davis also led a number of key oversight efforts, most notably the investigation into the use of performance enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball. He also chaired the committee to investigate the Bush administration’s response to Hurricane Katrina.

Before coming to Congress in 1995, Mr. Davis served as a supervisor on the Fairfax County Board for 15 years, rising to chairman in 1993. Simultaneously, he served as the general counsel of Litton PRC, specializing in federal procurement law and policy.

Mr. Davis is a graduate of Amherst College and the University of Virginia Law School.
