People want their leaders to act according to a clear set of principles and to be consistent in their actions. Consistency and predictability create two important elements that are the foundation of any successful relationship between the leader and the team: credibility and trust.

Successful leaders know their values and priorities and have an internal compass to keep them on course. This greater self-knowledge and self-confidence improve the effectiveness of both the leader and the team.

In the one-hour presentation each participant will learn:

• How to deploy and use it in everyday work

About the Speakers

Kevin J. Haney

Academy Leadership
Director of Leadership Programs

Kevin Haney is a 1981 graduate of the United States Naval Academy and a 26-year veteran of the U.S. Navy. He joined Academy Leadership after serving as the United States Naval Academy’s Distinguished Military Professor for Leadership and Ethics. A graduate of the Navy Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun), Kevin also completed his graduate studies in International Business & Economics, International Security Studies, U.S. Diplomatic History, Southwest Asian History, and Culture and Politics at the Fletcher School for International Law and Diplomacy in 1995.
From 2001 to 2007, Kevin taught Political Science at the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) and the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA). He was nominated for teaching awards at both, winning the award at USAFA. From 2007 to 2019, Kevin taught and directed Leadership: Theory and Applications, USNA’s flagship leadership course, as well as the core course Ethics and Moral Reasoning for the Naval Leader. Kevin also developed several courses in U.S. National Security Policy, Leadership in Causes, Conduct, and Termination of War, as well as a course on Combat Leadership. He brings a wealth of practical leadership knowledge and experience, as well as curriculum development to the Academy Leadership team.
As an F-14 Tomcat Radar Intercept Officer (RIO), Kevin deployed four times on three separate aircraft carriers in support of U.S. national security objectives. Kevin flew operationally in Fighter Squadrons Eleven, and Thirty-two, and he was also selected as a flight instructor on the F14 where he taught airborne air combat tactics to fledgling fighter pilots in Fighter Squadron One Hundred One. Following graduate school, Kevin was part of the Operations Directorate at U.S. Central Command in Tampa, Florida where he served as the Executive Officer to the Operations Director as well as an action officer in the Crisis Planning division where he planned numerous strikes into Afghanistan.
Kevin is married to Blair Jennings Haney, and has three children. He resides in Annapolis, Maryland.

About the PM Industry Insights

PM Industry Insights is PMIWDC's workshop series that addresses the practical aspects of Project Management.

These sessions are to provide you with insights on what is going on in the local industry so you can learn from it. This discussion-based session will include presentations on tools, industry panels, interviews with industry experts, workshops, etc. The target presenters will be individuals from PMO’s, university professors, consultants, etc. 

Both PM Industry Insights and the monthly dinner meeting are worth 1 Professional Development Unit (PDU) each to certified PMPs. Continued certification as a PMP requires the accumulation of these valuable credits and we are pleased to offer this opportunity to obtain both the important training and the educational credit associated with it.
