About the Speaker

Janet Cook

Janet Cook brings over two decades of management and research experience in medical, scientific, educational and professional development arenas. She analyzed research in diverse areas including distance learning, instructional technology, OSHA noise exposure standards, second language learning by adults and the neuroscience of creativity. She has managed public sector projects for over 15 years, focusing especially on team development, and has authored and co-authored numerous technical reports.

As past-VP of Membership on the Project Management Institute Silver Spring Chapter Board of Directors, she co-trained the first cohort of PMP aspirants, and helped increase 2-year Chapter growth by 30%. She has presented to PMI, INCoSE, IEEE and ASQ Chapters on process improvement using creativity. Her community volunteer work includes 2 years of teaching yoga at Isaiah House in Washington, DC and at Walter Reed Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD. For the past two years, she has coached dozens of participant job-seekers attending Career-Confidence.org on Belbin Team Roles, to define and describe their professional accomplishments and fine-tune the direction of their job search. She just started a new job training PMP exam preparation and team roles for Maryland Global University.

In addition to her Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, Janet has MA degrees in Speech Pathology and Audiology from San Diego State University, and a BA in Linguistics from the University of California, Berkeley. She holds certificates in Project Management from University of Maryland University College, and in Mediation from the Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution, Bowie State University. She holds expert level certification in Belbin Team Roles.

Janet and her husband of 24 years, Peter, live in Silver Spring. They adopted a son, Daniel, from Vietnam, who’s now 16 years old. She meditates daily.
