About the Program
The most important asset that an organization possesses is the knowledge and experience of their workers. Project and program managers are no different. However, companies are finding it very difficult to capture that knowledge in a way that other PMs can effectively access. We are finding that it is easy to capture lessons but hard to “learn” them. Effective lessons learned processes are few and far between. The use of those lessons are even more challenged.
In this session, you will learn from someone who has created lessons learned (LL) processes for dozens of the largest corporations in the country. Most of these systems have had significant challenges to adoption and many “lessons” were learned in their implementation. Issues of collection, access, desire, and usage have presented significant barriers to return on investment.
In this session, you will learn the following:
- What barriers prevent most LL processes from working
- The right approach to collecting lessons on projects
- A working model of lesson dissemination
Ultimately, you will learn the successful elements of a working lesson learned system in a way that you can implement a similar system within your company – an approach that has prevented nearly 1000 lessons from being repeated, in the 3 years since it has been implemented.
About the Speaker
Jason Dunn, PMP, CSM, CSPO
Jason Dunn has spent over 25 years improving project organizations, of which 20 years are in the Information Technology area. He has served many different roles on projects from Portfolio Manager, Program Manager, Project Manager, Change Manager, Business Analyst, Researcher and Tester. Jason has worked for many Fortune 100 companies to improve their overall organizational effectiveness. As part of this work, he has stood-up PMOs as well as assessed and improved existing PMOs. Currently, he is the P3M Community Program Director at Freddie Mac in the Enterprise Program Management Office and is focused on improving Portfolio, Program and Project Management Maturity and Governance. He is a PMP, Six Sigma Black Belt, CSM, CSPO, and Certified ProSci Change Management Trainer.
About the Sunrise Valley Luncheons
The Sunrise Valley Luncheon Series (formerly the Fairview Park Luncheon Series) is held at Noblis. Noblis has recently relocated its headquarters office to Reston, VA at 2002 Edmund Halley Drive. There is no charge for these events and the event is open to the public. Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch to the event if they wish! Networking begins at 11:30am and the presentation runs from 12:00noon - 1:00pm. Non-Noblis visitors are required to show a picture ID to gain entrance to the facility.
