About the Course
Agile is now a major movement within the project management profession. According to PMI’s 2017 “Pulse of the Profession,” 71% of organizations are using Agile at least some of the time. With the publication of the PMBOK® 6th Edition in September 2017, Agile is formally part of the industry canon.
With this sea change in the profession, it is essential to project managers and leaders not only understand Agile, but also embrace it. Agile is not just coming, Agile is here!
This one-day program is designed to provide project managers and leaders with foundational knowledge of Agile principles and practices. For those already on the Agile transformation journey, the seminar will shed light on the real-world challenges of Agile transformation and scaling initiatives, and offer insight and advice on how to overcome them. Key concepts will be reinforced with hands-on exercises.
The seminar will cover the following topics:
- Benefits of Agile and why Agile projects are more successful than Waterfall
- Common Agile methodologies: Scrum, Kanban, and XP
- Common misconceptions about Agile
- Components of a successful transformation strategy
- Scaling Agile in the enterprise
- Implications of Agile to traditional project managers
- Agile and the PMBOK 6th Edition
Attendees will leave this program with a clear understanding of the Agile movement and practical guidance on how to embrace Agile regardless of the attendee’s current Agile knowledge and/or experience with enterprise Agile transformation.

About the Speakers
Alan Zucker, PMP, ACP
Alan Zucker was practicing Agile techniques well before the term was coined. In the early 1990s he employed the agile principles of collaboration, minimal documentation, to deliver a mission critical, mainframe application for the US Treasury. His agile skills were further honed during his years in the fast paced and dynamic telecommunications industry. He also played a leadership role in the Agile transformation of a major financial institution; during this period, the number of annual production releases increased 4-fold, average release durations declined by two-thirds, and project management execution costs were cut in half.
In 2016, he founded Project Management Essentials to provide training and advisory services. He provides Agile, DevOps, and traditional project management training. He also works closely with his clients as they transform their practices.
Alan received his undergraduate degree from The George Washington University and a Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of Maryland. He holds a Masters Certificate in IT Project Management from the George Washington University and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and Agile Professional (ACP) by the Project Management Institute (PMI). He also holds Agile certifications as a Scrum Master (CSM) and Scale Agilist (SAFe 4.0 SA).
