About the Speakers

Mary M. Dunaway, Ph.D

Assistant Professor/Program Director, Data Science

Mary M. Dunaway, Ph.D. is the Director of Data Science Programs and Assistant Professor at the University of Virginia in the College of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS). In 2014, Dr. Dunaway received her Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She earned her PMP distinction in 2004. Prior to an academic career, Mary spent over 25 years in various leadership roles in the corporate project and program portfolio management in support of Enterprise Technology Systems. As a rising scholar, she has successfully published several journal articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings. Also, Dr. Dunaway is leading the effort to develop and launch an Applied and Operational Analytics graduate certificate program in SCPS. She is a dynamic STEM academic who is a sought-out speaker and panelist for numerous conferences/workshops sharing her expertise in Information Systems and Data Science. Her research in Text Analytics was released in June 2017 in the edited book, Analytics and Data Science: Advances in Research and Pedagogy. Additionally, Mary’s research, “Collaboration in a Data Analytics Curricula: An Active Learning Approach was recognized as one of 20 Best papers at the 2017 Americas Conference on Information Systems.
