Project Management Institute Washington DC (PMIWDC) Chapter partners with local universities to bring our chapter events to university students, young professionals, and our members in Washington, DC on a quarterly basis. Both Members and Non-Members are welcome to join us for the best speakers and networking the Washington DC area has to offer!

The presentations are targeted towards project management professionals, corporate and government leaders, and students looking to step into the field of project management. Our speakers will discuss each element of the PMI Talent Triangle to help further professional development and enhance the following skills all in one night! Each University PM Talks Event also offers certified PMPs 2 Professional Development Units (PDUs). These elements include:

  • Technical Project Management
  • Leadership
  • Strategic and Business Management

This event is free for students, costs $20 for members, and $25 for non-members. This event provides 2 PDUs for certified PMs. If you have any questions about the event, please contact us.

Presentation by Lekisha Middleton - Leadership
Title: “Navigating Change in the Digital Age”

Most good project managers have the tools and knowledge necessary to delivery a successful project, but what do you do when organizational and cultural resistance threaten your project scope, timeline and quality of work? In this presentation, Lekisha will discuss how the cultural climate of an organization can determine a project's success or failure. In this current Digital Age, being able to properly manage and navigate organizational, process and technology changes is critical to a project's success. Join us as we discuss possible roadblocks to change as well as strategies and tools to remove these roadblocks to deliver a successful project for your client or business.

Title: “Strategy - The Key to Business Success”

Strategy defines what you’re going to do to deliver value. It is what you will do to change the world to create something that doesn’t otherwise exist. Strategy is usually best when it aims to build things that differentiate you from all other providers in the world. Strategy defines your purpose, objectives and priorities so that they are explicitly understood by you, your organization, your bosses, your funders and your customers. I will talk about examples of strategies that were key to success at businesses where I worked, including Neustar and enterprises at Blazar Ventures.

Lekisha Middleton

Human Resources Career Architect

Lekisha brings people, technology and process together to invoke positive change. She is a Human Resources Career Architect with over 15 years of experience successfully delivering enterprise solutions and managing stakeholder expectations across large technology programs. In her role as a Career Architecture Manager, she is responsible for partnering with Accenture’s Businesses to bring “Careers at Accenture” to life using the foundation of our overall career framework. Previously, Lekisha worked in Accenture's Resources North America Utilities practice as a Management Consulting Manager, where she partnered with clients to enable them to successfully implement and navigate organizational changes.

Lekisha is a trained coach through the CaPP (Coaching and Positive Psychology) Institute and will obtain her Professional Coaching Certification through the International Coach Federation (ICF) in 2017. She is also a certified Project Management Professional and holds a Master of Science in Information Technology Management from Carnegie Mellon University, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Management Information Systems from the University of South Carolina.

Lekisha actively participates in volunteering and recruiting initiatives and serves as the Accenture Skills to Succeed Relationship Manager for Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT). She is particularly passionate about enabling youth and young adults with the skills necessary to have a successful career in STEM-related fields. She loves all things music, travel, comedy and spending time with family and friends. Her favorite quote is, "To whom much is given, much is required."

Jeffrey E. Ganek

Blazer Ventures

Jeff Ganek is a Partner at Blazar Ventures, an investor in and developer of data services in growth markets. He is Chairman of INTTRA, the largest multi-carrier e‐commerce platform for global shipping, and The Wireless Registry, a directory of wireless signals for the Internet of Things.

He was the Chairman and CEO of Neustar from 1995 through 2010. Neustar (NYSE: NSR) manages all telephone numbers and the directory that is essential to the routing and delivery of all calls in North America. Additionally, Neustar is the provider of directory services key to more than 20 percent of the traffic on the internet. As Senior Vice President of Communications Industry Services at Lockheed Martin, Ganek founded Neustar as an independent unit and led a management buy‐out in 1999. Neustar has been a public company since 2005.

From 1991 to 1995, Ganek was Senior Vice President – Operations at Global TeleSystems Group, a developer, and operator of communications service companies in China, India and Eastern Europe. He led marketing and corporate development initiatives at MCI from 1985 – 1991. Previously, he managed finance and marketing responsibilities at AT&T.

He is a member of the Advisory Boards of the Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University and the Kogod School of Business at American University.

He was designated Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young in Washington, D.C. Ganek earned an M.S. in Public Policy and Management and a B.S. in Economics from Carnegie Mellon University. He is married with two children.
