About the Event
Purpose: To acquaint participants with two levels of the 3M’s (Measure, Manage, Magnify) system of measuring, managing and improving all levels of performance.
Objectives: As a result of this presentation, participants will be able to:
- Define the total value of individual and team level performance contributions as measured by the proportionate value of their Key Value Areas(KVA).
- Develop at least one Performance Objective per KVA that has a weighting, measures and 3 standards of performance.
- Those who attend with a project team member will be able to develop measures of interdependent tasks and objectives.
About the Speaker
Mel Schnapper, Ph.D.
Mel is a dependent consultant and the founder and past Chair of the Metrics Specific Interest Group (SIG) of the Project Management Institute (PMI) and a leading expert in the development of metrics for measuring, managing and improving performance. His approach to metrics comes from his training in Organization Behavior (metrics are social products), Linguistics (metrics must have a common meaning amongst those who work together) and corporate project management when he was Quality Manager for Oracle Corporation’s, Global Project Management Service Line.
His current consulting activity is in the areas of: performance management systems, career development, succession planning, leadership skills, teamwork skills and, of course, measuring the effectiveness of all of these interventions. In addition to his US-based corporate roles as Director of OD/Training for the Quaker Oats Company, Chicago Board Options Exchange, G.D. Searle Pharmaceuticals in Chicago, his international consulting activity has been in 26 countries bringing his metrics approach to democratization, government reform and institutional capacity building. And writing his next book on “The Metrics of Relationships”.
Mel is a native Washingtonian, and, now after ~20 years of living out of a suitcase, he is back home to stay and pursue local/domestic consulting. More about Mel at: www.schnapper.com
About the Reston Local Community
Each month, PMIWDC Reston Local Community volunteers strive to bring you interesting and informative speakers from a wide range of professions. They present these speakers to you at the Leidos building or other organization located at Reston Town center. This is an opportunity to network with other professionals of the PMI.
