About the Event

Project Managers and Non-Profit Organization (NPO) managers face a daily environment of “insufficiency.” There is always insufficient funds, insufficient time, insufficient staff resources to meet mission need – and who needs the overhead of PM anyway? In this environment PMs have so much to offer, so many ways to be agents of change. The value is enormous, from the altruism of helping others, to problem solving where others couldn’t, to helping some desperate need be met. But as a PM, volunteering offers tremendous opportunity for engaging in your own professional development – it’s a leadership thing. The benefits to the PM Volunteer are manifested in learning new ideas and professional environments, practicing skills and authorities not always found in their paid work, and of networking, meeting other leaders with passion for the service they provide. In fact, working with NPOs is a great way to work with other volunteer leaders and connect the leadership PM to new business opportunities. Ultimately, PM volunteerism is a way to rapidly build your own brand. How does volunteering lead to leadership and what do NPO’s need from skilled volunteers? Calling on the spirit and skills to engage in volunteerism!!

About the Washington Circle Luncheons

PMIWDC's Washington Circle luncheons are a series of free brownbag luncheons hosted at 2201 G St, NW in Downtown DC. There are luncheons every fourth Wednesday of the month, unless posted otherwise.

This program series is made possible by the generous support of George Washington University School of Business, which offers a Master of Science in Project Management (MSPM) degree. The MSPM program is designed to meet the needs of working professionals who want to enhance their ability to integrate complex projects, motivate people, and achieve cost-effective results. With courses offered both on-campus and online, students have the flexibility to complete the degree from virtually anywhere.

Washington Circle luncheons are free and open to the public. Pre-registration is preferred, but walk-ins are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis.
