The presentation will provide the Project Manager with what are the influencing factors that affect employee effort? Ground-breaking research from the NYU Stern School of Business indicates that there are specific things leaders can focus on to build a high-performing team where incredible performance is the rule rather than the exception. The speaker will -
- Describe Discretionary Effort (DE) and how it is manifested in team members
- Explain the linkage between the 6 drivers of DE and improved team performance
- Describe how to leverage this linkage to increase competitive advantage
- Understand the benefits of increased team member DE

About the Speaker
Tim Dalhouse is an instructor, speaker, and author with expertise in Project Management, and Project Management Professional (PMP®) exam preparation training. Tim is also a decorated Retired U.S. Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sergeant with 24 years of active duty service, including 2 combat deployments. One of the greatest honors of his military career was serving as a Casualty Escort on 3 separate occasions to return home the remains of Marines killed in action during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
After retirement from the Marines, Tim served as Director of Workforce Development & Military Programs with Craven Community College in North Carolina, developing and administering occupational and technical training programs. He then went on to manage software and regulatory projects for the Department of Defense, US Food & Drug Administration, and Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Tim currently leads the implementation of Regent Education’s 100% cloud based student financial aid management solution for educational institution clients from inception to deployment, serving as the primary point of contact for the client, managing contractual obligations, and assuring client satisfaction and quality delivery against expected business outcomes.
Tim has trained over 500 PMP aspirants, and is the author of How to Use Military Experience to Qualify for the PMP® Exam, available on iBooks, Smashwords.com, and other eBook retailers. He is Adjunct Faculty at Southern Illinois University and Park University, and has taught professional development courses for American National University, University of Maryland University College, and Montgomery College. Tim is a designated Master Training Specialist by the Chief of Naval Technical Training, and has previously held a Top Secret clearance.
Tim holds an MBA in Public Management from Trident University International and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Systems Technology from Southern Illinois University. He is an active member of the Project Management Institute (PMI®) Washington, DC Chapter and the Golden Key International Honour Society for Academic Excellence.
Tim was awarded the FDA, Center for Veterinary Medicine, 2014 High-Performing Organization Award for creating collaborative support across diverse work teams to achieve significant organizational process improvements using Lean/Six Sigma methodologies. His military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2), Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2), Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, NATO Medal, and Armed Forces Service Medal.
Tim is an avid runner, cyclist and SCUBA diver, and a volunteer lead for the Outside Connect ministry with Church of the Redeemer - Frederick, Maryland campus.
