About the Event
Francisco Semião will present on the challenges of program management sustainability in the nonprofit world. As the corporate and nonprofit worlds continue to merge more each day through board service or executive leaders taking the lead of foundation and charities, the challenges most face is the ever growing number of nonprofit entities that are competing for the same donors and grant awards. This is especially a challenge for nonprofit hospitals that have $1 billion budgets but only have less than 3 percent profit margin with capital needs that far exceed that. To ensure new programs can be launched, managed, and sustained in the nonprofit world, a program manager needs to strategically creep towards thinking like a for-profit executive to ensure the long life of vital programs. Francisco will give an example of a Harvard case study that he has replicated and used as a model on some of his efforts at MedStar Health and the National Organization of Portuguese Americans, which has earned him the name of “Rainmaker” with some of his colleagues.
