As Project Managers we manage our projects, work with budgets, schedules and client requirements but how much effort is put into building a common purpose and clear understanding of goals/objectives, fostering communication, growth and good relations among the project team members? This session will focus on tools to keep the project team healthy, which contributes toward a more efficient and effective team. Ultimately this makes for better project performance and results. Some of the topics touched on will be:

  • What you can do to deal with conflict among team members
  • Why it’s important to be the buffer between your team and the client

About the Speaker

Liana Underwood, PMP

Project Manager

Liana has been working in the IT Project Management profession for over 14 years and enjoys exploring the soft skills of the profession. As a busy Mom, Project Manager, Wife, Friend, Colleague, and Volunteer she knows first hand how difficult it is to find work-life-balance.

Liana has the privilege of working with a dynamic and inspiring team for Oracle, Esri, and Sage in the Washington, DC region since 2001. She’s been part of several diverse teams in the program management space and has proven results in increasing stakeholder satisfaction on the projects she works. Her specialty is process improvement, team collaboration and fostering an environment of camaraderie coupled with results.

She has over 18 years in the IT field, and 10+ years in IT Project Management supporting middleware deployment, engineered hardware systems, application development projects, and project and program facilitation. Liana also has been volunteering for the Project Management Institute Washington DC chapter since 2014.

Ms. Underwood has Master’s Degree in Management from Marymount University and BA in Geology from Bloomsburg University. She delights in the journey of her career and is always open to exploring ways to grow, help people, and enjoy life. In her spare time, she enjoys teaching indoor cycling, going to kiddo sporting events, staying active, and exploring self-improvement.

About the Reston Local Community

Each month, PMIWDC Reston Local Community volunteers strive to bring you interesting and informative speakers from a wide range of professions. They present these speakers to you at the Leidos building or other organization located at Reston Town center. This is an opportunity to network with other professionals of the PMI. The conference center at Leidos offers a maximum seating of approximately 30 guests. Pre-registration is required. Luncheons are held every third Wednesday of the month.
