About the Presentation

By close of business on September 30, 2017, the Department of Defense must be prepared to pass a financial audit. And even before then—by the end of 2014—Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta wants DoD’s available budgetary resources to be able to pass an audit. Considering that the DoD had $1.2 trillion in available budgetary resources in FY 2011—more than any other agency within the Federal Government—these tasks are colossal undertakings. How does DoD even begin to tackle such a monumental goal? Join us on Saturday, July 21, 2012, to hear James E. Short, former DoD Deputy Chief Financial Officer as well as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the United States Air Force for Financial Operations and now a director at Acuity, one of the firms helping the Pentagon in its audit readiness effort. Mr. Short will discuss how DoD will tackle the auditability challenges ahead through strong, values-driven leadership and powerful, effective project management.
