About the Course

You’re smart, you’re savvy, and you have impeccable project or program management credentials and experience. As a project manager, you can define scope, create a project plan, and track costs with the best of them. As a program manager, you can manage a large or small portfolio of projects, exploit economies of scale, and reduce risks admirably.

But that isn’t all it takes. Your success and career advancement hinge upon how well you are able to handle yourself and the many stakeholders who are connected with the projects or programs you manage. To be effective and competitive, especially as a new generation of managers enters the leadership ranks, you must be emotionally intelligent.

You can’t be a bull in a china shop; you must be able to monitor your own feelings and emotions, as well as the feelings and emotions of others. Most important to your effectiveness is the ability to recognize and discriminate among emotions – and then knowing how to use this information to guide your thinking, planning, communicating, and actions within the project or program.

This one-day seminar focuses specifically on the personal and social emotional intelligence competencies that project and program managers need to deliver successful outcomes. Participants will explore skills that will strengthen their abilities to operate in complex matrix environments, build effective teams, manage change, and provide leadership.

Through lecture, discussion, and experiential activities, you will examine strategies to harness, improve, and increase your abilities to regulate your emotions and communicate more effectively with others. By the end of the session, you will have built a foundation for applying people skills within project or program management contexts and will have completed a formal assessment of your individual strengths and areas for development.

You will know how to manage your own emotions for improved performance and for more enjoyable, predictable, and successful results.

As a participant in this program and at no additional cost, you will:

  • Receive a hardcover copy of Emotional Intelligence 2.0 by Travis Bradberry, Jean Greaves, and Patrick M. Lencioni, a $19.95 retail value.

  • Complete an online assessment of your emotional intelligence using the world’s best-selling emotional intelligence test and receive a customized printed report of that assessment, a $40 retail value.

  • Work step-by-step to create your own action plans for personal development
