About the Program:
Asset Management and Sustainment Cost Control
In today's shrinking budget environment, management of government/defense agency, branch and program assets is an increasing target for cost savings. Given the integration of commercial technologies into critical government/defense systems that provide services to both internal and external customers, managers are already discovering that being tethered to commercial industries has a significant downside. With commercial changes in technology, government/defense systems must change as commercial industry changes. This commercial/government integration approach creates significant IT sustainment cost and forces technology refreshes to insure the required levels of state of the art functionality, capability and security.
Tactical and strategic cost mitigation strategies suggest better management of the infrastructure that delivers services to customers. Platform life-cycles and warranties, strategic technical refreshes, architecture realignments, software licenses and service agreements, and the smart choice of support services play a major role is sustainment cost control strategies in both short and the long term asset management decision making. This presentation is meant to put forward that argument.
