It is February. It is a time to celebrate love and romance.

As project managers, it is time for us to fall head over heels in love with Agile.

The Project Management Institute formally embraced Agile with the publication of the PMBOK 6th Edition® and the Agile Practice Guide. Agile is no longer coming. Agile is here!

In this presentation, Alan Zucker will share the secrets of Agile and why it is so alluring. Like a good romance, Agile can brighten our day, lighten our load, and change our outlook.

Agile makes for happier customers. Agile projects are more likely to be successful. They deliver value incrementally. They embrace change. And, customers are involved in the process.

High-performing Agile and DevOps teams are more likely to recommend them to friends and colleagues. Agile practices create empowered and committed teams.

As with all changes, becoming Agile can be difficult. But like falling love, going Agile is worth the effort.

PM Talks Networking - Special Guest!

Please come out and meet Gerald Sablo, Jr. BS, MS who recently won the 2017 James R. Snyder International Student Paper of the Year Award and say hello!

The James R. Snyder International Student Paper of the Year Award is given to students in any degree level of project management degree program and is awarded to students by region. Sablo won the award for North America.

In the middle of a 50-year career split between working as an editor at span style="border:none windowtext 1.0pt; font-family:inherit; padding:0in">Flying magazine and as a security officer at a local church, Sablo received his bachelor’s degree in organizational management from Nyack College in 1991. He attempted to retire in 1991, but only made it two years before he needed a challenge. "My spouse agreed to my going back to work and school when I discovered my comfort zone was suffocating me," he said.Gerald Sablo

Sablo enrolled in theMaster of Science in Project Management program in 2014 and quickly recalled why he loved management in the first place. “It is ideal to speak the language of project management,” he said. “This program gave me a different mindset, and I’ve learned that everything is a project–life is a project.”

Part of Sablo’s capstone project for instructor Ginger Levin was writing a paper, and when she saw the quality of his writing, Levin suggested he enter the PMI® contest. While his current paper didn’t meet the requirements, he was able to submit a paper he wrote with classmate Matthew Douglas for PHLSPHY 7530 Business Ethics. The paper incorporated research on the PMI® Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, and how the code corresponded to the ethical theories discussed in class. Because the submission could only have one author, Sablo revised the paper and submitted it in February. "When it won, and I was contacted in April, I immediately reached out to Matthew to let him know and to offer him a part of the cash award."

Sablo will receive his award in October at PMI’s® annual North America seminar in Chicago. The Distance Learning Center held a small award ceremony to celebrate his accomplishment during May's commencement activities. While Levin was unable to attend commencement, she will join him at the award ceremony in Chicago.
